Connected to New Providence by two bridges that cross over Nassau Harbour, Paradise Island is best known for its extravagant beach resorts - Atlantis being the largest.

Formerly known as Hog Island it was purchased by Donald Trump for $79 million in the 1980's, who later sold it to Merv Griffin for $400 million. Sol Kerzner of Atlantis is the new owner, having purchased it for $125 million.

Beautiful beaches run the length of the north shoreline. The casino and the nightclub at Atlantis provide nightlife activities, and there is a lot more to do across the bridge in Nassau.

Between the Paradise Shopping Center, Marina Village and Atlantis there is a wide range of stores, from everyday items to high-end jewellery and fashion. Paradise Island also has many restaurants to choose from.

There are three banks on Paradise Island - Scotia Bank, The Royal Bank of Canada and First Caribbean Bank. Regular banking services and automated teller machines (ATM) are available at each of them. For US cash there is an ATM in the Atlantis Casino.

An official Bahamas Police Station is located on Paradise Island as well as a private security service that patrols the island.

There is no lack of quality medical care. The Paradise Island Fire and Ambulance Station has emergency medical facilities with top-quality equipment. Two of the three hospitals in Nassau are only moments away from Paradise Island. There are also numerous walk-in clinics with licensed doctors in Nassau. Air-ambulance services are also available.

There is no public transportation on Paradise Island but water ferries make ten-minutes trips back and forth to downtown Nassau, where shops, banks and businesses are plentiful.
